The motive for the design is “Stepping Stones” that are common in Korea to use them when crossing a stream or shallow river. Furthermore, the stones are a good example of the relationship between NATURE and MAN coexisting and help each other.
Canal flows thru the development and incorporates into the plan for both esthetic and functional purpose. Also, different surfaces and programs distinguish Office-tels and retails in each block.
Five consecutive blocks of the kilometre-long Songdo Canal Walk creates dynamic and mixture of actives and diverse environments. Also, these five blocks represent stepping stones between the commercial and the residential zones in the master plan in Songdo International Business District.
As a design team leader and chief designer, Mr. Park designed this project while he was working at Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates.
